The Road to Sustainability

It’s time to think differently about how apparel is made. To look not just at today, but to the future and what our lasting impact will be. With every Town Hall Outdoor Co product we create, we’re striving to make the planet a better place. And it’s a work in progress. Every day, we learn something new. We’re constantly challenging ourselves to make the right decisions. Decisions that help us to reach our goals of being an earth-friendly, responsible manufacturer. It’s not the easiest route, but it’s worth it in the long run.

Our Four Pillars

Using recycled fabric is just the beginning. We search high and low for the best previously loved components for our products (recycled zippers, pulls, you name it) to help lessen our manufacturing impact. Each product we make contains a minimum of 75% recycled materials. But we believe in thinking big, so we’re working hard to make that percentage even higher.

We’ve ditched the traditional way of thinking about packaging. Our products ship in 100% recycled packaging. No more polybags. No more hangtags. No extra packaging to send to the landfill. We’ll make sure you have all the info you need about our products right here on our website.

Making products leaves a footprint on the planet, but that doesn’t have to be the end of the story. We believe we can create positive change in the apparel industry, and it starts with doing things right from the start. Smart decisions at the beginning of the product life cycle means less damage at the end. In our first year of production, we’ll measure our impact, a.k.a. our carbon footprint. Then we’ll purchase community-based carbon offsets to offset more than just our impact. Being planet positive means being committed to making sure our positive impacts outweigh our footprint.

Sustainability is a process. It’s not a simple “to do” list. It’s what we live for, to always strive to do better than the day before. That’s why our team is always measuring our impact, from tracking manufacturing emissions to evaluating shipping impacts and everything in between.

And that's just the beginning

Where do we go from here? Once we have our baseline after our first year of production, we’ll use that to build on what we’ve learned, so we can do better the next time around. Community-based carbon offsets are a great way to balance our impact, but we need to go even further by lessening our carbon footprint in the first place. The less carbon we emit, the less of an impact we make. The less of an impact we make, the fewer carbon offsets we’ll need. Then, by 2024 our goal is to use 100% recycled materials. Creating products with planet-first standards takes extra time and effort. It takes commitment. We’ve got some lofty goals and even higher standards. But we believe it’s worth it. Our planet’s future is worth it. And our kids are worth it.

The Proof is in the Partnerships

Public Benefit Corporation

By legally registering and setting up Town Hall as a PBC from day one, we are embedding principles of environmental sustainability, social accountability and inclusivity into our chartered mission which is at the core of every decision that we make. We are accountable for disclosing and abiding by our public benefit of "being planet positive by contributing more to the planet and its people than it takes" and "contributing to the wellbeing of the communities of Northwest Colorado".

Prana Sustainable Packaging Movement

Being part of this great coalition of brands means that we are working hard towards our goal of completely eliminating plastic from our consumer packaging by 2021 (done!), eliminating use of materials from ancient and endangered forests by 2022, and eliminating virgin forest fibers by 2025. We are proud to partner with this esteemed group and make big waves together.

WRAP Gold Certified

Working with a factory to manufacture our goods is more than just placing an order. It is a deep partnership that is built on trust and working towards a common goal. The factory that builds our kids outdoor apparel is WRAP Gold Certified which shows that they not only obey the laws of their country, but treat their workers with dignity and respect, and are conscious of the impact their operation has on the environment.
